Chocolate Strawberry Glazed Doughnuts
Chocolate Strawberry Glazed Doughnuts. As promised we are already starting our Valentine’s Day recipes. And yes, doughnuts and chocolate are both Valentine’s Day necessities. But to make them even more fun, do them with a strawberry glaze and top them with plenty of chocolate shavings, because extra chocolate??! Why not. Super cakey and fluffy, fruity and all around delicious. You really can’t go wrong when chocolate is involved. Anyone else already in the Valentine’s Day spirit?! Or are we just overly excited?!
Ok so we may be starting a little early with Valentine’s Day, but honestly its such a fun and cute holiday and we absolutely love it. Heart shaped foods and decorations first of all, are so cute. We actually already started with our decorations and clearly our recipes now as well!
Anyway, I have never made doughnuts before and I thought Valentine’s Day doughnuts would be the perfect way to start. They’re super cute and the variations of them are endless. So after lots of back and forth over what kind to make, we settled on chocolate. Because you can seriously never go wrong with chocolate and Valentine’s Day is ALL about chocolate. We wanted to incorporate strawberries though as well because they’re red and make for a cute Valentine’s Day inspired doughnut. So, these are not only super chocolatey but they’re fruity as well. And that’s a combo I am all about.
Stay tuned for more doughnuts because we really liked the way these turned out…next time they may just be even more Valentine’s Day inspired in a heart shape!! ;)
Ingredients
1 1/2 cups flour
1/2 cup cocoa powdered
2 teaspoons baking powdered
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup sugar
2 eggs
1/2 cup sour cream
6 tablespoons milk
2 tablespoons butter
2 tablespoons vanilla extract
chocolate shavings for topping
For the Glaze
1 1/2 cup powdered sugar
1 tablespoon milk
3 tablespoons strawberries; finely chopped
Directions
Preheat the oven to 400 degrees. Spray a doughnut pan with cooking spray.
In a large bowl, whisk all the dry ingredients until combined. Add the eggs, sour cream, milk, butter, and vanilla extract. Stir to combine.
Pipe the doughnuts into wells of the doughnut pan using a piping bag. Cook for about 10 minutes or until cake set. Remove from oven and let cool completely.
Meanwhile make the strawberry glaze. In a small bowl, whisk all ingredients together until combined and the strawberries have broken down and released their juices turning the glaze pink. Dip tops of doughnuts in glaze. Serve topped with chocolate shavings.
