Traditional Classic Pizza

Traditional Classic Pizza

Ever since I can remember Friday night has always been pizza night in our house! In high school and even before then my Mom would always make pizza for my friends who were dying to come over to have some of her famous homemade pizza recipes! The tradition dates back to forever ago and we still continue it today!

There are so many different pizza recipes we have constructed over the years. It is so easy and fun to get creative with making pizzas since there are so many different toppings to pick from and such a large selection of cheeses. However, as our first pizza post we felt it was fitting to share our traditional, classic pizza recipe which happens to be my brother’s favorite since he loves everything super plain and simple.

This pizza is one that is served every Friday because no matter what, everyone loves it. All there is to it is fresh deli sliced mozzarella cheese and some pizza sauce! The only garnish, if you so choose to add it, is fresh basil! Personally, I love the added basil since it gives a little flavor to the pizza. We also love to sprinkle this pizza with chili pepper flakes. The basil and pepper flakes on this classic pizza recipe truly make for the perfect taste. However, my dad and my brother always just enjoy it plain! Either way, how can you ever go wrong with a plain and simple traditional pizza recipe?! I think the answer is just simply that you can’t!

a.     Ingredients:

  • 1 medium pizza dough; risen

  • 2 tbsp cup of extra virgin olive oil

  • ½ pound of thinly sliced, deli mozzarella cheese

  • 4 oz of pizza sauce

  • Basil for garnish

  • 1 Sur La Table ridged pizza pan

b.     Directions:

  1. Spread olive oil across entire pizza pan and pre-heat your oven to 475 degrees

  2. Place the dough in the middle and pour additional olive oil onto dough; using your hands spread the dough onto the pizza pan until it covers the entire pan

  3. Lay mozzarella cheese over the top of the dough; place on the bottom rack of the hot oven for approximately 5 minutes until the cheese melts and starts to brown

  4. When the cheese begins to bubble, remove the pan from the oven and start spooning the pizza sauce over the cheese

  5. Place the pizza back in the oven for an additional 5-10 minutes checking the crust to make sure it is getting brown and crispy

  6. When the crust is golden brown take the pizza out of the oven and let it cool 5 minutes before slicing; top with fresh basil and serve
