Carbonara Pie

Carbonara Pie

Carbonara was always one of my favorite pasta dishes growing up. Every year for my birthday dinner, I would ask my mom to make me Carbonara. I’ve always loved bacon, so I thought pasta with bacon in it was the most amazing thing I had ever tasted.

Since Carbonara is a staple dish in our house for a good Sunday night pasta, we decided it was time to give it a twist and make it in a baked pie form. While I love the traditional Carbonara recipe the best, this baked carbonara definitely did not disappoint, and it is safe to say we will be making this one again soon! We have been experimenting with pasta pie dishes, so if you have any fun suggestions or ideas, let us know so we can try them!

a.     Ingredients:

  • 1 pound of thick cut bacon; cut into 1 inch length pieces

  • 4 eggs

  • ½ cup of heavy cream

  • ½ cup of grated parmesan

  • 1 cup of shredded mozzarella

  • Salt and pepper

  • 1 pound of linguine

b.     Directions:

  1. In a large skillet, cook the bacon until crisp; set aside the bacon saving the bacon grease

  2. Beat the eggs with the heavy cream, continue beating adding the parmesan and mozzarella; add salt and pepper then set aside

  3. Cook the pasta according to package directions; drain

  4. Place the pasta back into the pot, add the bacon grease and the bacon stirring to combine; add the egg mixture and continue to stir

  5. Transfer the pasta to a 9 inch spring form pan that has been sprayed with non-stick spray; place on a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper

  6. Cook in a pre-heated 425 degree oven for 30 – 40 minutes
