And trust me you won’t want to with this French toast! It’s loaded with cinnamon apples, homemade apple butter, and fluffy challah bread. Breakfast on thanksgiving is just as important as the rest of the days meals. Here’s a way to make it fun and festive! Apples are perfect for fall and perfect for thanksgiving. And what better way to use them than in French toast?! The best part about this dish is it’s so easy, and you can make it the day before. So, on thanksgiving morning you can just pop it in the oven! Serve it with some mimosas and thanksgiving is off to the perfect start!
Ingredients:
1 loaf of challah bread; cut into thick slices
1 cup of apple butter (homemade or store bought)
8 large eggs
2 1/2 cups of whole milk
3 tablespoons of maple syrup
1 tablespoon of vanilla extract
1 teaspoon of cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon of salt
1 large honey crisp apple; thinly sliced
1 tablespoon of butter; melted
1 1/2 tablespoons of brown sugar
whipped cream; for serving
Directions
Grease a large cast iron skillet.
Spread one side of each bread slice with apple butter and arrange in skillet; overlapping
In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, maple syrup, vanilla, cinnamon, and salt. Pour the egg mixture over the bread slices.
In a small bowl, combine the apple, butter, brown sugar, and sprinkle in some cinnamon. Arrange apple slices on top of the bread slices.
Cover and place in the refrigerator for 1 hour or overnight. When ready to bake, preheat the oven to 375 degrees. Transfer to the oven and bake for 45 - 50 minutes or until French toast is golden. If the top begins to brown, cover with foil. Serve topped with whipped cream and powdered sugar.
